Making Hemp Necklaces are Simple

Hemp is a natural fiber available from Cannabis plant.  Though the plant produces the harmful drug marijuana, its fibers yield numerous benefits.  The fashion of wearing hemp jewelry in 1960’s and 1970’s has comeback and has gained popularity amongst the youngsters.  The simplicity in making hemp necklaces encourages many women to start good business at home.  The business does not require valuable materials, heavy investment and sound technical knowledge. Making hemp necklaces requires only simple tools like twine, beads and scissors.  With the help of two easy but different basic knots, you can create variety of necklaces in very short time duration.

Step 1
Cut two hemp strings of length of 5 feet 8 inches.  They are the knotting strings.  Then cut two more hemp strings with of length 2 feet 10 inches.  These are strings that would be used to thread the beads.  Ensure the beads have big hole in them.
Step 2
Take the two long strings together and tie with over a hand knot.  Then take the two shorter strings together and tie as earlier.  Now tie both the strings together and make over hand knot.  Always leave two inches from the edge of the strings. 
Step 3
Use the center knot to thread the beads.  Make the center strings tight. This would make the knotting work quicker and easier.  Bring the knotting strings to both the corners.   
Step 4 

Make a square knot

First take the left string over the center strings and then put it below the right string.  Fold the right string below the center string and put it in the loop of the left string.  Tighten the knot by pulling the center strings.  If you forget to tighten the center strings, a bulge will form which in turn would create an ugly look to your jewel piece. 
Step 5 
Create a same knot if you want to get a spiral design, otherwise if you alternate between left and right knots, then your necklace looks flat.  Put few knots and add beads.  Then put square knots and add beds, continue the procedure till you get desired length.  Braid the strings altogether leaving two inches.  Then tie all the strings together with over hand knot. 
The braided portion and loop is for tying the necklace.  You can increase the loop and braided portion to 4 inches also.  That would make it easy for you when it comes to adjusting the necklace while wearing it on your neck.
